Dwelling Insurance

In owning a home comes a certain sense of pride, well being and investment.

That's why having a homeowners policy that properly protects this point of pride is so crucial.

In looking at a homeowners policy there are 4 main components:

  • DWELLING

This will pay for damage to your home should it have damage from a a covered peril.  For example, Wind, Fire, Vandalism and Hail.  Flood, Earthquake and everyday maintenance is "not" a covered peril.  Flood and Earthquake coverage is obtained thru a specialty policy obtained specifically for this type of loss.  Everyday maintenance is covered by "YOU" the homeowner.

  • LIABILITY

Protection from lawsuits arising from bodily injury or property damage to others caused by you the policy holder or your family members.  It is highly recommended that one carries nothing less than $300,000 and may need higher limits.  Consult with an insurance professional to help determine if higher limits.  Consult with an insurance professional to help determine if higher limits should be selected and quite possibly a personal umbrella.

  • PERSONAL PROPERTY

Covers the "stuff" that you own from a stereo and golf clubs to the socks in the bureau.  The best way to catalog and inventory your "stuff" is to video each room including serial numbers.  Bear in mind that there are certain limitations on some "stuff".  Collectables, antiques, jewelry, artwork, guns and etc. may not be fully covered unless they are scheduled.

  • LOSS OF USE

Should your dwelling be uninhabitable due to a covered loss, this coverage will help defray the cost of additional living expense incurred while repairs are being done.
